Dr. James R. Coggins
Jim Coggins is a Labrador enthusiast participating in field trials, hunt tests, obedience trials as well as pointing Labrador events. I started in the sport with conformation Labradors and began training these dogs for obedience trials. Soon, I began participating in AKC licensed hunt tests and still later in field trials and APLA Pointing Lab trials. My two currently competitive dogs are from strong field trial and multi-generation Pointing Lab lines.
In addition to competing, I am an AKC-approved judge in both hunt tests and field trials. I have judged all levels of hunt tests (Junior, Senior, Master) and in licensed field trials (Derby, Qualifying). I judge all levels of sanctioned field trials. I have judged at the Master, Advanced and Certified levels of Pointing Labrador trials sponsored by the American Pointing Labrador Association (APLA).
In my non-dog life, I am a professor and past Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee. I am a devoted fan of Labrador Retrievers, the most versatile sporting dog. My dogs and I have fun by participating in competitive retriever field events and AKC obedience trials.
