HISTORY

Cody, GMPR Lime Creek's Code of Honor MH, born April 16, 2003, is the result of a breeding of Lime Creek's Punkin Patootie and Rik's Risky Raider.  Cody's mom, Punkin,  is one of the top agility Labs in the country (MACH titled), a grand master pointing retriever (GMPR) as well as a master hunter (MH), tracker (TDX) and obedience dog (CDX).  Raider is a master hunting retriever (MHR), grand master pointing retriever (GMPR) and master hunter (MH).  Raider was the 2001 U.S. Open Pheasant Champion.  He is out of Cashzinger Kennels, in MN.  Raider is one of the most outstanding producer of titled Pointing Labs in the country.

FIELD TRIALS

I ran Cody in his first ever field trial, the Manitowoc County Kennel Club's winter field trial held December 3, 2005.  The weekend was a series of firsts; it was the first field trial attempt, the first time running on snow and the first time running in a field filled with hay bales.

Regardless, Cody did a fine job. He took third place in the Amateur Trained and Handled (AT&H) but in the Qualifying stake, Cody took first place, won the trial.  I was extremely pleased with this performance.

In April, 2007, we moved up and ran in the Open stake, the hardest level of field trials, at the Wisconsin Amateur Field Trial Club's spring field sanctioned field trial.  Competing against older and more experienced dogs, Cody took fourth (4rd) place.  Woo!!  Not to be outdone, Cody's uncle Mickey placed 3rd.

HUNT TESTS
  SENIOR
During the spring and summer, our training has slowed because of a busy summer work schedule, moving and a wedding.  Cody's test schedule finally began in July (July 10) when we entered the Fox Valley Retriever Club's summer hunt test.  Cody passed a difficult test, his first Senior, in fine style.  This pass came at the age of 14 months.  I am happy to post another pass at the August 21 Island View Senior test.  Cody lined his land blind, had no hunts on his land marks and, more importantly to me, was a real gentleman coming to and while at the running line.  In perusing the catalogue, I noted that Cody, at 15 months, was the youngest dog running the Senior test.  Our next test is scheduled to be at the Winnebago Labrador Retriever Club test September 11.   An update, Cody not only passed the WLR test but did an outstanding job.  He stepped on all four of his marks, lined his land blind and had an easy 3 whistles on the water blind, one that gave many dogs trouble.  I was very proud of his work at this test. He is now 3/3 in his Senior tests.  We did not enter any Junior tests.

Since the Senior tests were going so well, I decided to test fate and drive all the way to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to enter a double header Senior and try to earn the title before the snow flies and training slows down.  On October 16 and 17, we entered and passed two Senior tests that turned out to be the hardest yet.  On Saturday, Cody was one of only 6 dogs out of 25 to pass and was the youngest dog passing.  On Sunday, same results and again, Cody was the youngest dog to earn a ribbon.  With those two tests, Cody earned the Senior Hunter title going five for five.  He equaled his uncle Mickey's record of earning the SH title at 18 months of age. He also passed the Saturday test on his 18 month birthday.  Below are some recent photos of the pup.

  MASTER
Cody passed his first attempt at the Master level AKC tests by passing a test at the Fox Valley Retriever Club test May 14-15.  Thus, his first master pass occurred while he was still 24 months old.  A second, extremely difficult, test was passed May 28-29 at the Wisconsin Amateur Field Trial Club.  Two down......  And today I can update this to indicate a third consecutive pass at the master level.  Cody hammered the July test at Fox Valley, earning his third Master ribbon.  As of this writing, three down and two to go.  On the last day of August, 2005, Cody aced the hunt test sponsored by the Madison Retriever Club for pass number four.   What a way to finish!  In September, we ventured to the Blackhawk Retriever Club test in Mondovia, WI and ran what has to be the hardest master we had done.  Forty dogs started the test and only 12 finished.  I am happy to report that Cody was one of the lucky dozen and thus earned his Master Hunter title in fine fashion.

With the pass at Blackhawk, Cody finished his hunt test titles with a record matched by few other dogs.  He passed five straight Senior tests for his SH title; then went on and passed five consecutive Master level tests. Thus, passing 10 tests without a single failure.  WOW

POINTING LABS
Cody is a nephew to my Grand Master Pointing Labrador Mickey.  He comes from strong pointing lab lines with multiple Grand Masters on either side of his pedigree.  Thus, it came as no surprise that training Cody for pointing was an relatively easy endeavor.
Cody's first attempt at a trial came on April 9, 2005 when we entered the Certified level at the APLA test in Roberts, IL.  Cody passed the test with flying colors, pointing each of the three planted birds, being steady to wing and shot and making each retrieve with ease.  At this trial, Cody and his sister, Bit, were easily the two best dogs in the upland field.  So, Cody adds CP, Certified Pointer, to his AKC Senior Hunter title.

Cody easily passed his first Master level Pointing trial in Minnesota in May to earn the title of Master Pointing Retriever.  He received a perfect score on the upland pointing part of the test.

On October 15, 2005, Cody easily passed the Master level test at Paducah, KY to earn his Grand Master Pointing Retriever title.  Cody passed his grand master test while only 29 months old.  Incredibly, Cody has now gone 13 tests in a row without a single failure.  I would like take credit for all of it through superior training but I am sure genes come into play also.  I would say that Cody has been entirely amateur trained and handled in all tests, thus to all titles, by me.  I am extremely proud of this accomplishment.

Breeding

Cody is available as a stud dog to qualified females.  Potential mates must be AKC registered, OFA Good or Excellent, CERF clear and have a proven record of hunt test, field trial, and/or APLA tests.  Females with no titles but with a superior pedigree will be considered for breeding.  Cody is OFA hip certified (Good), elbows (Normal) as well as CERF certified, CNM Clear and EIC Clear.  Cody possess a unique blend of qualities.  He is from extremely strong field trial lines on his mothers side and multiple generation pointing stock on both mom's and dad's side of the pedigree.  His dad, Raider, was the U.S. Pheasant Champion and goes back to English field trial stock.  The English influence also brings very tractable behavior and handsome looks.  Cody is the easiest dog I have ever trained.

Cody's working weight is 65lb.  He is 21.75 inches in height.

Email or call Cogg Hill Kennels for a printed copy of stud packet and pedigree.

Cody is the newest member of the Cogg Hill Gang, shown here at Cogghill Pond at age 18 months. While not a particularly good picture, Cody wanted me to show that he is patriotic; 18 months old.
